"Content" - what I call it - is called data, information, noise, knowledge, etc. etc. by others.
It is also called an idea, a thought, a vision, or a dream by some...
Content is everywhere - omnipresent like God.
In fact, content is God!
Content plays a major role:
1) as a product itself - the source
2) as a medium to promote product - the link, media, bridge
3) as the target - the sink
The content might be present in written or audio or visual form, or it might just be there in the form of an abstract idea in your brain.
And the Content Industry is going through an explosive disruption, as the content is getting converted from one form to another in multiple languages...
